Shiny Squirrels and SABLE (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy)
Ironically I find that as I grow older I want to try more new things and/or projects (aka shiny squirrels) though I have no hope of completing most of them. Because I sense the shortness of life that remains to me I feel I must cram all the things I want learn, do, or create into these remaining days.
In recent weeks I’ve bought supplies to learn Shibori, several new reproduction sampler charts (this after swearing I was over cross stitch and ready to get rid of all my supplies), so many new books (I could insulate every wall of our home with the books I already own), and just today discovered the joys of Freeform crochet (as evidenced by the pic above) thanks to
and her newsletter that posted today. Mind you, this was on top of a massive quantity of rug hooking, knitting, tatting, punch needle rug and embroidery, crocheting, quilting, beading, and sewing supplies already piled up in every room of the house. And I won’t even talk about all the musical instruments we have collected over the years and the many eclectic collections we have acquired and yes, it is beginning to look like a hoarder’s house.I have zero regrets and have no difficulty living with the clutter. What I find upsetting is that I’m rapidly running out of tomorrows and I fear I will finish very few of the myriad projects that are underway. I do perhaps have one regret and that is that my children will have to deal with what I leave behind.
And now for something totally different
If you are ever in the vicinity of the Delaware beaches do not sleep on the opportunity to visit the Delaware Botanical Gardens in Dagsboro, Delaware. It is located in Lower (Slower) Delaware on thirty seven acres and they have done magical things with the land. We paid our first visit there yesterday with some visiting family members. It’s a peaceful, informal, intimate garden of native plants and trees integrated seamlessly into the local environment. The staff are friendly and well informed and happily answered any questions we had. We will be going back many times I predict.
And now for some things Philly
April is vacation time for us and this year we spent eight days in Philadelphia, PA. My partner’s daughter, her wife, and their son live in Philly for now and we wanted an opportunity to spend some time with them as well as see the sights. I have to say I’ve never had so many fabulous meals-Philly is a great city for food. We stayed very near City Hall and could walk to most of the things we wanted to see. We were there for the eclipse and watched it sitting in Rittenhouse Square-unfortunately it clouded over when the totality occurred but we saw the first 70% of it. My partner put his eclipse glasses (purchased at the Franklin Institute) over his phone camera lens and took this spooky picture of the partial eclipse.
We visited the iconic pipe organ in Macy’s (formerly Wannamakers) Department store.
And we truly enjoyed seeing the LEGO art exhibit at the Franklin Institute.
And we try to visit a zoo or an aquarium anywhere we vacation and the Philadelphia Zoo did not disappoint.
That’s all the over-sharing I have for the month of April (so far 😉). Thanks for enduring. And as with opinions, this post is worth exactly what you paid for it…and yes, sarcasm is my brand of humor.
Thank you for sharing Donna! However many days you have left, I hope they’re filled with many more learnings and beautiful experiences.
